Analysis of the Introduction of Nano Technology.

Nanotechnology is introduced in some areas and penetrates more fields of daily life. What is the status and which fields are most advanced? Ho can this be rated and in relation to what?

A simple and fast method to rate the significance of terms is the google hit count. Terms starting with the word Nano drawn from a dictionary are rated with the hit count. Their order will to some extent represent their relative significance. For an absolute evaluation the rated list of terms starting with micro is added.

With this algorithm a list is generated with German end English terms sorted according to the hitcount of "Micro".

The highest score is with Microsoft which is not relevant here as well as Micronesia. Even Microwave with its high score is not a millionth part of something.

It starts with the Microphone where movements in the range of microns are measured and which is of course very frequently used.

Microbiology is rated higher than Microscope, two terms which went together in a very important field of technology.

The Microprocessor, controller and computer can be counted together and they also stand for an important field of technology based on Microchips.

Microfiche is the term for data storage technology with lateral structures on the film. It also comprises microfilm. In this case nanofilm has a different meaning dealing with the thickness of the film which is in the range of nanometers.

Looking at the nano side, the nanotechnology as a whole is dominant and it even surpasses microtechnology which is more diversified. In other general terms like nanometer and nanosecond the smaller dimension is also more in use than micro. Nanosecond by the way is the only nano term that passes my present version of the spellchecker.

For further terms the nanofilm, the nanotubes and the nanopowder are real nano dimensional structures.
They do cover the field by being nanodimensional
the nanofilm in one direction,
the nanotubes in two directions
and the naonpowder in three directions.

Nanotubes with their specific atomic structure are leading high against less specific microtubes. Nanopowder leads against micropowder while while nanofilm cannot be rated against microfilm.

Nanoelectronics are justified with real nanoelelctronic products, but the term is still widely dominated by micro. And nanobiology would describe the field in which of genetic engineering is carried out, just the term is not so much in use.
